Hot Weather Installation Tips

SOD INSTALLATION IN HOT WEATHER REQUIRES EXTRA ATTENTION AND ADDITIONAL STEPS TO ENSURE A SUCCESSFUL INSTALLATION.

When you order sod during the summer months it should be installed immediately after it is delivered, leaving it on the pallet will allow the sod to generate heat, discolor and eventually perish. If it is left on the pallet and then put down, it is possible to save it. It can be leaf raked to stand the grass up and then watered to get the grass back to its original condition. There may be some grass that is lost, that would require replacement, call our office and order what needs replacing 1-800-556-2466.

BE SURE TO HAVE YOUR IRRIGATION TESTED AND WORKING CORRECTLY BEFORE ORDERING ANY SOD.

New sod requires a lot of water initially to keep it alive, and frequent watering thereafter. If you have your irrigation or water supply ready to go, it will eliminate any chance of the sod drying out during the hot conditions.

HOT, HUMID WEATHER IS OPTIMAL FOR BREEDING TURFGRASS DISEASE.

We treat our sod regularly for most turfgrass diseases, but there are times where the hot, humid conditions cause disease to form regardless of what we apply. After the sod becomes established on your site, during hot and humid conditions, it is susceptible to disease. If you encounter any patches of discolored grass or grass that looks like it is thinning unnecessarily, you may have disease on your grass. It is easily cured with a fungicide, which could be purchased from a local lawn and garden supply and applied according to the product label (follow instructions and please wear proper protective equipment if needed). If you have questions about these conditions we would be glad to advise you on what steps to take.
